On December 4, 2024, several international media outlets reported that U.S. defense contractor Anduril and ChatGPT maker OpenAI announced a "strategic partnership to develop and responsibly deploy advanced AI solutions for national security missions," with an initial focus on C-UAS.
The two companies stated that they would combine OpenAI's cutting-edge models with Anduril's military hardware and software to protect the U.S. from drone attacks. This marks the most significant attempt by the AI developer in the defense sector to date.
The project aims to train OpenAI's models using Anduril's data on drone "threats and operations" to "detect, assess, and respond to potential lethal aerial threats in real-time."
Brian Schimpf, CEO and co-founder of Anduril, emphasized the commitment to "responsible solutions" in this effort to help "military and intelligence personnel make faster and more accurate decisions under high-pressure situations."
